Is there a way to tell if a cd player in a car will play .m4a files?

I am looking for a new CD Player/radio console and one of the features I am looking for is iPod connectivity. All of the models that I've seen that allow iPod connectivity say they play wma/mp3/aac. Is there a way to tell if .m4a is supported on a stereo? Thanks.
